The Panthers have beat a Top-20 team for the first time since they beat UM (when they were ranked #1) on April 23, 2008. The Panthers last beat Texas A & M on May 26, 1995. RJ Fondon pitched for 7 innings and gave up six hits. Closer Bryam Garcia got the win after pitching two innings. He only gave up one hit.
The Panthers won in the 10th inning after Aggie pitcher, Ross Stripling let Jabari Henry score on a wild pitch.
FIU plays the Aggies for the series win tomorrow at 2:05pm.

One thing I love about baseball is the different walk up songs players use when they go up to bat. They use them for fun (former Marlin Mike Redmond used Sir Mix A Lot’s “I Like Big Butts [and I Can Not Lie]”) or to scare opposing pitchers/players (Marlins player Hanley Ramirez has used the Scarface theme song). I have started enjoying them. I even ended up getting some in my phone so I can listen to them whenever. I am going to start making posts listing the songs our Panthers use as walk up songs.

On April 1st, Opening Night, the Florida Marlins are planning on honoring FIU alumni Mike Lowell. It would be nice if FIU fans can make it there to show Mikey support, especially since the football spring game has been moved to April 2nd.

FIU has made history once again! Pitcher Kyle Fitzpatrick tossed a no hitter against Northeastern University on this chilly night. This was FIU’s first no hitter since Chris Lein no hit Eckerd College in 1979. Kyle allowed one walk and struck out five.

I recently caught up with former FIU first baseman, John Petika. John is currently running for Man & Woman of the Year, which is a competition where those participating are busy fund raising for blood cancer research.

Most of you thought that Jabari Henry would hit the first home run of the 2011 season for the Panthers. Well, Rudy Flores hit the home run tonight against Mississippi Valley State.
